I formed my accountant's practice on the back of working for 10 years in firms of accountants where all the stereotypes commonly associated with accountants were rife - they charged too much, they were totally out of touch with the client's understanding of accounts, they talked jargon and they wore pinstriped suits (I still shudder at the memory of this and still cannot visit the penguin enclosure if I visit a zoo!) Having sat through one meeting with a client where my total input was shaking hands with the client when they arrived and realising that I had sat there for two hours which they were charged for I set out to break the stereotypes!   2. Not a tie in sight (unless our visitors are wearing one)
  3. The radio on in the background (often Radio 2 but not always).
  4. Your accounts and tax queries explained in English rather than the Swahili that most accountants use!

What do we do? Well, almost anything legal! We specialise in accounts preparation, book keeping, tax, V.A.T., payroll, but also in educating our clients as to what we do with their records. How many of you know what a wages control account is? Probably not many! But if you could learn what one is and produce it to save us the trouble, your bill would be so much less!

Our book keeping department is particularly busy, and we spend a lot of time at client's premises helping them to do the administration side of the business to enable them to do what they do best, but we also try and encourage our clients to do as much work themselves as possible.
